San Jose Technical High School has made various innovations since the beginning of pandemic to address the demand in blended learning for a more accessible and better quality of education to the learners. Part of this innovation is the rebranding of school publication in its new identity from The Carangian Chronicles to The Steel Square.
Rebranding the student publication is one of the agendas of Dr. Jaime A. Cabili Jr. -the new school principal as he took place the leadership and management of San Jose Technical High School.  Dr. Jaime’s aim in this innovation is to regain the prominence of the school paper that was once flourished during his time when he was the adviser of the said publication. The Steel Square as the former official student publication of SJTHS had made history in the school as it had brought home not only regional but also national outstanding recognitions in the field of journalism. Hence, by renaming the school paper into what it had been known in the past- THE STEEL SQUARE will give authentic identity of the school in upholding dynamic, responsive, and free journalism to its clients- the students, the school’s academe, the stakeholders, and the community in general.

In connection with this, the Steel Square will be more committed to protect the press freedom in the school level, and to promote the development and growth of campus journalism as a means of strengthening ethical values, encouraging critical and creative thinking, and developing moral characters and discipline of the students concerned.

Moreover, the Steel Square is even adaptive at this age of digitalization. As part of its rebranding, the Steel Square is repositioning its journalistic service from a traditional publication into a digital perspective as the number of online communities increases today. This is to give readers another platform to access news and information at their own fingertips anytime, anywhere. The launching of the Steel Square online portals such as Facebook Page and its website through Blogspot.com will bring school’s news and information, and even developing story in social media instantly. On the other hand, this online platform will be a great tool of the school journalism to address the worsening issue of disinformation in social media by providing authentic sources and genuine information.

Despite of its digitalization, the Steel Square is still compelled to issue its quarterly publication together with its graduation release at the end of the school year. The quarterly issuance of school publication aims to deliver school’s news story and information with a higher sense of readership to its clients.

Indeed, the dynamic leadership of Dr. Jaime A. Cabili, Jr. and his love for journalism will surely bring back the glory of the Steel Square not only in the San Jose Technical High School but also in the wider arena of journalism.
